Residents at New York Apartments recently made history launching Tacoma’s first supermajority tenant union.
Their commonsense demands and fight for community protection have inspired neighbors citywide and established Tacoma as a hotbed in the nationwide tenant union movement resurgence.
The NYA Tenant Union only launched in December, 2025, but has already spurred organizing in buildings across their landlord’s local portfolio and throughout Tacoma. Be sure to sign their support petition below, and be on the lookout for several more public tenant union launches soon and an anticipated citywide tenant union launch in 2026.
Tacoma For All is honored to be supporting the movement with dedicated resources via our sister 501(c)3 nonprofit, Tacoma Tenant Organizing & Outreach (TTOO). TTOO's Executive Director and their team work closely tenants, organizers and volunteers on all aspects of tenant union formation and campaigns.

Renters represent almost half of Tacoma’s 220,000 residents, and we believe the tenant union movement will become a force to be reckoned with throughout the region.
